Leaves are changing to a beautiful array of colors, temperatures are cooling, hoodies and backyard fires with family and friends are where memories are made. As the temperatures are dropping, and we’re bundling up, many insects are looking to find their winter hibernation homes. Amongst these insects are, ants, stink bugs, lady bugs, spiders and many others. Rodents such as mice are looking for a warm place to nest in.

Did you know that the stink bugs do not nest or breed in homes. It’s true, their life cycle is not very long.

In the spring they emerge and vacate their overwintering spots and venture out to feed on specific vegetation, breed and adult stink bugs die off. After 90 days the babies hatch, grow up and by fall make their way back to the home to over winter, to start their life cycle over the following year.  Only the adults and older adolescent stinkbugs survive over winter. The rest cannot live through the cold.

Ants such as carpenter ants look for warm areas of damp wood to colonize, and cause damage to structures. Spiders hide behind brick and other areas to over winter as well. Contrary to popular belief most insects do not die in winter, rather they hibernate and emerge in spring!
