For many people, choosing insurance can feel like trying to put together a puzzle without seeing the picture on the box. There are plans to compare, costs to consider, questions about coverage and, often, a lot of unfamiliar terminology. At Ken Duley’s White House office, the goal is to make that process a little less overwhelming and a lot more personal. For Ken, insurance has never been just about selling a policy. It is about sitting down with people, listening to what they need, answering their questions and helping them make decisions they can feel comfortable with. “I love helping people” is how Ken describes the philosophy behind his work. That simple idea has guided a career that spans more than three decades in the insurance industry.
A Tennessee Career Built Around People
Ken was raised in Oak Ridge, Tennessee and, after graduating from Tennessee Tech, built his career in Middle Tennessee. Over the years, he has worked with individuals, families and small businesses, helping them navigate the often-complicated world of insurance. Today, Ken operates his White House office at 2747 Highway 31W, Suite 2, next to Colorado Grill. The office serves people throughout Middle Tennessee, both in person and over the phone. His experience allows him to help clients explore a variety of coverage options, including health, Medicare, life and supplemental insurance, as well as dental and vision coverage. But for Ken, the important part comes before a policy is ever chosen. It starts with a conversation. Every person comes to the table with a different situation. A young family may be trying to find affordable health coverage. A small-business owner may be looking at options for employees. Someone approaching Medicare age may simply be trying to understand what all the choices mean. Ken’s job is to listen first, then help make sense of those choices.
A Team That Cares
While Ken may be the familiar face many people associate with the office, he is surrounded by a team that shares his commitment to personal service. Mary Ann Phipps has been part of Ken’s team since 2017. As a licensed Health and Medicare agent, she works directly with clients to help them understand their options and find coverage suited to their individual circumstances. After nearly a decade working alongside Ken, Mary Ann has become an important part of the office and a familiar resource for the people they serve. The newest addition to the team is Allegra Kenitzer, also a licensed Health and Medicare agent. Allegra brings a fresh perspective to the office while sharing the same goal as Ken and Mary Ann: helping people feel more confident about their insurance decisions. Behind the scenes, Tiffany Wynne helps keep everything running smoothly as the office manager and agent assistant. From helping with the day-to-day needs of the office to assisting the agents and clients, Tiffany plays an important role in making sure people receive the attention and follow-through they need. Together, the team brings different roles and experiences to the office, but they share the same philosophy. Insurance should be personal.
Meeting People Where They Are
Not everyone can easily make it into an insurance office, and the team understands that. That is why Ken and his agents offer appointments not only in the White House office, but also by phone. Whether someone prefers a face-to-face conversation or would rather talk from the comfort of home, the team works to make getting answers as convenient as possible. For clients, that accessibility can make a real difference. Insurance decisions are often connected to some of life’s biggest moments; such as, starting a family, changing jobs, approaching retirement or simply trying to protect the people you love. Having someone willing to slow down, explain the choices and listen to concerns can turn a confusing process into one that feels manageable.
A Community Connection
For Ken, that personal approach extends beyond his office. He and his wife, Carla, make their home in the White House community. They are parents to twins, Ian and Keah, and their family has grown to include grandchildren through their daughter, Keah. Being part of the community gives Ken another reason to view his work as more than a business transaction. The people who walk through his office are neighbors, families and members of the same community he calls home. That connection is reflected in the feedback Ken has received from people who have worked with him. Public reviews describe him as knowledgeable, helpful and willing to take the time to listen. One longtime acquaintance said he had known Ken for nearly 50 years and had never met anyone who cared more about people. Those comments speak to something that can be difficult to measure on a business card: trust.
Making Insurance Personal
Insurance will probably never be considered the most exciting subject around the dinner table. But having the right coverage can provide something that is far more important, peace of mind. That is what Ken hopes people take away from their conversations with his office. Whether someone is exploring health insurance, trying to understand Medicare, looking for life insurance or considering supplemental coverage, the goal isn’t simply to hand them a stack of paperwork. It is to help them understand their choices. And sometimes, the most valuable thing an insurance professional can provide isn’t a particular policy at all. It’s the time to listen, the patience to explain and the willingness to help someone find a path forward. For Ken Duley and his team in White House, that is what serving their clients is all about. The do it one person, one family and one conversation at a time.
