Greetings Neighbors!
I’m happy to be able to address you once again here in your South Novato Living Magazine.
As a business owner, I’m also a client of my own design and marketing services. For a trade show I was to attend, I realized I wanted an atypical leave behind. I’d created a campaign which I’d named “Magnetize Your Brand” and to me this meant to fine tune or spruce up a design — which I love to do.

This time I’m making a CASE STUDY out of past projects where it was my job to knock a home run over the fence to improve upon some advertising or branding that had either underperformed or had become outdated — to Magnetize it.
Since logos appear so many places, often an evolution is the way to go. I update the piece so that it looks significtantly better, but is not so different that it forces a big spend on updating everything.
See the examples below. It’s very satisfying work.
Magellan Logo
I knew this company’s new VP of Marketing, as I’d worked with him at Apple. He invited me to design an evolution logo for them. At the time (1995) they were courting new satellite technology contracts. None of us had never seen any logos with orbits or satellites in them, so it turns out that my logo evolution process yielded one of the first ‘orbit’ logos.

SMART Pest Prevention
This entrepreneur had started a pest control business in Hawaii, but their ads were not working in the least. My ads used a subtle animation of the insects taking their turns jumping up against the glass barrier. I saw that their logo looked ‘soggy’ when printed in color, so I used their b/w one. The ads I did for them immediately got clicks, calls, and sales — so that was very validating.

WiData changes its name to WhereNet
Scrappy Silicon Valley startup WiData changed their name in a rebranding campaign — then hired me to design the new logo. They wanted the new logo to reflect their shift to using proprietary signals to pinpoint objects within a meter. Their math and logic directly paved the way for the open-standard tracking technologies we take for granted today. It was over 20 years ago. Curious, I asked AI if it knew who designed the WhereNet Logo — and it did.

Whether for your business or your family, I do everything from flyers, posters, photo repair, including splacing shots together imperceptibly (called compositing), and projects like illlustrations, photo collage posters for weddings and other special days, and keepsake family album coffee table bookks.
I’d very much like to be your go-to trusted creative resource.
