Imperial Valley’s medical community is growing.
New healthcare facilities, urgent care centers, doctors’ offices, and expanding medical services are bringing more healthcare professionals into our community. And behind every new facility are the nurses, technicians, medical assistants, doctors, and support staff who keep it running.
As our local medical community grows, we believe the businesses that serve them should grow alongside it. That is why Border Tactical has recently begun a significant expansion of the medical side of our Uniform Division.
From the Classroom to the Workplace
For years, our scrub selection was primarily focused on serving students enrolled in local high school and college nursing programs. We carried one primary scrub brand and helped students obtain the uniforms required for their programs. But we began to realize that we were meeting the needs of students without necessarily meeting the needs of the working medical professional.
Someone who wears scrubs every day has different considerations. Personal fit, comfort, function, style, fabric, color, and even the placement and number of pockets can make a difference when that uniform is being worn through an entire shift. We knew it was time to offer more.
Our expanded selection now includes Wink, Carhartt, Grey’s Anatomy, and Skechers scrubs, giving customers a variety of styles, fits, and materials at competitive price points. The goal isn’t to determine one “best” scrub for everyone. It’s to give people enough choices to find the best scrub for them.
When Pockets Really Matter
Ask someone who works in healthcare what matters in a good pair of scrubs, and you may be surprised how quickly pockets enter the conversation.
For many nurses and medical professionals, those pockets carry the tools and everyday items that help them do their jobs efficiently throughout a shift.
Comfort is equally important.
Healthcare professionals spend their days walking, bending, reaching, lifting, sitting, standing, and moving from one task to another. Fabrics with flexibility and stretch aren’t simply about making clothing feel nicer—they can make a meaningful difference when someone spends an entire day or night working in them.
The right scrub needs to work with the person wearing it.
Fit You Can’t Find in a Shopping Cart
Online shopping has made almost everything more convenient, but clothing can still present one stubborn problem: fit.
One of our customers recently told us how much she appreciates being able to shop for scrubs locally simply because she can try them on. It was a small comment that made a lot of sense.
When scrubs arrive but the sizing isn’t quite right, repackaging them, shipping them back, waiting for another size is an extra headache. Our customer laughingly admit to sometimes forgetting to return them altogether. Now you’ve spent money on scrubs you can’t wear.
Shopping locally allows someone to compare brands and styles, feel the fabric, check the stretch, see where the pockets fall, and actually move around in the garment before deciding.
And when the fit still needs a little adjustment, that’s where having an in-house alterations department becomes especially helpful.
At Border Tactical, scrubs can be customized as needed, and when scrub sets are purchased from us, pant hemming and patch application are included at no additional charge.
The idea is simple: help our customers get their uniform ready for work with as little hassle as possible.
A New Appreciation for the Uniform of Care
For me personally, expanding this part of our Uniform Division means more than adding another category of clothing to the store. I have many friends who are nurses at our local hospitals, and through them I have heard what a difference it can make to have more options available here in Imperial Valley.
But my appreciation for the people wearing those scrubs also became deeply personal.
When my dad was in the ICU shortly before he passed away, I saw firsthand just how many people it takes to care for one patient. There were nurses, technicians, and other medical professionals working together to diagnose him, monitor him, care for him, and keep him comfortable.
I also saw something that isn’t written into a job description.
During an incredibly difficult time for our family, there were healthcare workers who still tried to make me smile. They brought moments of kindness and even a little levity into an otherwise grim situation. Those moments stayed with me.
They gave me an even greater appreciation for the people behind the scrubs and the amount of skill, dedication, compassion, and humanity they bring to work with them every day. If these are some of the people caring for our community during its most vulnerable moments, then we want to do our part to take care of them, too.
And This Is Only Phase One
Our hope is that someone working in healthcare can walk into Border Tactical, see our new scrub department, and be genuinely surprised by the selection available right here in Imperial Valley.
We want local medical professionals to think of us first when they need uniforms—not simply because we want their business, but because we want to earn the opportunity to serve them well.
And we’re not finished.
This expansion is only the first phase. As we continue growing our medical uniform selection, we want to hear directly from the people who will actually wear it. What styles would you like to see? What colors are difficult to find locally? What accessories make your workday easier? What are we missing? Those answers will help shape what comes next.
For many years, Border Tactical has had the privilege of outfitting many of the people who protect and serve Imperial Valley. As our community changes and grows, so does our definition of what it means to serve those who serve.
Sometimes that uniform carries a badge. Sometimes it carries a stethoscope. Either way, we are proud to support the people behind it.
