To close the gates on Sabellico’s has truly been the hardest decision I have ever made. After 63 years here at Sabellico’s, I have been truly blessed to have had a career that I have loved and a business that has been such an important part of my life for more than six decades.
Sabellico’s began 76 years ago when my father and mother started growing vegetable plants as a kind of hobby, primarily to provide plants for my grandparents’ farms. After I graduated high school, my father suggested that I try to grow and expand the business. Little did I know where that suggestion would lead. What began as a small family endeavor grew into a garden center that became a part of the community and a labor of love for my entire family.
Now, it is time for me to close the garden gate on this remarkable chapter.
Sabellico’s built its reputation on quality plants and excellent service, but those qualities were only possible because of the wonderful people who worked at Sabellico’s. We have been extraordinarily fortunate to have a staff of dedicated, professional and knowledgeable people who truly cared about what they did. They understood that good service was about much more than making a sale—it was about helping our customers succeed in their gardens and enjoy the experience of gardening. I am especially proud that so many of our employees stayed with us for so many years. We have had team members who have been part of the Sabellico’s family for 40, 30 and 20 years. I will always be grateful for their loyalty and hard work.
While closing the gates is bittersweet, I leave with a heart full of wonderful memories, lasting friendships and deep appreciation for all that Sabellico’s has meant to me and to my family.
I wish all of you good health, happiness and, of course, good gardening. Thank you for 76 wonderful years. I hope to see you around town.
With gratitude,
Ray Sabellico
