Holiday lights in Tampa Bay have an unfair advantage: warm nights, live oaks, and streets where 1920s bungalows sit beside modern rebuilds. A great display works with your home’s character — and it starts with getting the electrical right. Here’s what to know before the first strand goes up.
5 Tips for a Beautiful, Safe Display
1. Match the light to the house. Warm white (2700K) flatters historic and traditional homes. Cool white reads crisp and modern. Two or three colors, max — a coordinated palette looks designed, not random.
2. Build in layers. Roofline first, with C9 LED bulbs that trace the silhouette. Then columns, arches, railings. Wrap the oaks, net the shrubs, and finish with a lit wreath at the entry. Each layer adds depth without competing.
3. Check your outdoor outlets before anything plugs in. The most-skipped step. Look for the TEST/RESET button — no button means no GFCI protection, which is both a code issue and a shock hazard in wet weather. Many Palma Ceia homes built before 2000 have never been upgraded. Quick fix if caught early.
4. Know your circuit’s limit. A standard 15-amp outdoor circuit safely carries about 1,440 watts. LEDs are efficient (25–40 watts per 100 feet), but inflatables, projectors, and rope lights add up fast. The #1 cause of a Christmas Eve breaker trip? Sharing the outdoor circuit with the garage door opener.
5. Use outdoor-rated cords and covers. Indoor extension cords break down fast under Florida sun and humidity. Look for UL-listed cords marked “W” (e.g., SJTW), and swap flat outlet covers for weatherproof bubble covers that seal even with a cord plugged in.
Rather Not Touch a Ladder This Year? We Handle All of It.
A full-service install includes custom design matched to your home and street, commercial-grade C9 LEDs on heavy-gauge wire cut to your exact roofline, gutter-safe clips (zero damage to fascia or shingles), a GFCI outlet check and any electrical upgrades before the display goes up, in-season maintenance, takedown in January, and labeled storage so next year takes one phone call.
No ladders. No tangles. Nothing in your garage.
