It was 7:00 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. The bags were packed, the kids were ready, and Grandma’s famous sweet potato casserole was carefully secured in the back seat. Everyone climbed into the car, ready for the three-hour drive to Thanksgiving dinner.
There was just one problem.
The car wouldn’t start.
For the past few weeks, the engine had been cranking a little slower in the mornings. There was also that tire-pressure light that seemed to come and go—and a slight squeaking noise from the brakes that was easy to ignore.
After all, the car was still running. What could possibly go wrong?
Apparently, Thanksgiving morning was the day to find out.
After several attempts, the engine finally started. Crisis avoided—or so everyone thought. About an hour into the trip, the tire-pressure warning returned. Now the family had a decision to make: keep driving and hope for the best or find somewhere open on Thanksgiving morning to check the vehicle.
Suddenly, the conversation wasn’t about turkey, football, or who made the best pumpkin pie. It was about whether they were going to make it to Thanksgiving dinner at all.
Fortunately, this story had a happy ending. But it also came with an important reminder.
