Why Fall Is the Best Season for a Peel

Summer is hard on skin, even when you’re careful. Long days outside, sweat, chlorine, and sunscreen that didn’t get reapplied quite as often as it should have all add up. By September, most of us are looking in the mirror and seeing what’s left behind: uneven tone, new dark spots, rough texture, and a dullness that no amount of moisturizer seems to fix.

That’s exactly why fall is peel season.

i. Why the timing matters

A professional peel uses carefully chosen acids to loosen the buildup of dead skin cells so they shed evenly. That reveals fresher, brighter skin underneath and encourages healthy cell turnover. For a little while afterward, that new skin is more sensitive to the sun.

In summer, stronger UV and long days make that recovery window riskier, with more chance of irritation or new pigmentation (the very thing you were trying to fade). As the days shorten and the sun sits lower, conditions line up for treatment and healing.

One note: UV rays don’t take the fall off. Daily SPF is still part of the plan, even on cloudy days.

ii. What a fall peel can help with

  • Sun spots and uneven tone left over from summer
  • Rough, dull texture that makes makeup sit on top of the skin
  • Congestion and breakouts from sweat and heavy sunscreen
  • Fine lines and a tired, flat look
  • Home care that isn’t absorbing the way it should

iii. Not every peel is the same

Peels range from gentle surface exfoliation to deeper resurfacing, and the right one depends entirely on your skin. At The Skin Tune, every peel starts with a real look at what’s going on: your skin type, sensitivity, history, and the products you’re already using. From there, the acid, strength, and number of sessions are chosen for you. No guesswork.

For most clients, a series of peels spaced a few weeks apart delivers smoother, more even results than one aggressive treatment. The studio works exclusively with GlyMed Plus pharmaceutical-grade formulas, so every step is professional-grade and always personal.

iv. Making your results last

Real results follow an 80/20 rule: about 80% comes from what you do at home, and 20% comes from treatments in the studio. After a peel, your skin needs support:

  • Cleanse gently and keep skin well hydrated
  • Wear broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every day
  • Let flaking skin shed on its own (no picking)
  • Pause retinoids and exfoliating products until you’re cleared to restart
  • Skip waxing, saunas, and intense workouts for the first few days

v. When to wait

A peel may not be right for you if you have a recent sunburn or fresh tan, an active cold sore, broken or irritated skin, or have recently taken isotretinoin (Accutane). Some peels also aren’t recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. That’s why a consultation always comes first, so be open about your health and your current routine.

vi. Get ahead of the season

Starting a peel series now means your skin is smooth and glowing by the time the holidays arrive. It also builds a healthier foundation before winter’s cold air and dry indoor heat set in. Think of it as a fresh start: come as you are and leave glowing.
