Easy Ways to Immediately Improve Your Attention Span

Working long days and nights is a common symptom of owning your own business. Many entrepreneurs spend countless hours making calls, crunching numbers and strategizing how they can achieve their short-term and long-term business goals. Working tirelessly is stressful, and it could have a profound impact on one’s attention span. If you’re overworking yourself, your ability to pay attention and retain important information can begin to dwindle. Let’s go through a few easy ways to quickly and effectively improve your attention span:

Exercise and drink more water.

Taking good care of your body each day will result in a healthier mind and more energy to spend on your business. Step outside for a quick walk, practice yoga or find a 15-minute workout tutorial on YouTube. You don’t need to exert all of your energy on a midday workout, but do just enough to increase your heart rate and get your mind removed from your work. Drinking fluids is also a great way to maintain your energy levels throughout the day. Drink a glass of water when you wake up and another one after your morning coffee. You’ll start to feel a new sense of energy almost immediately.

Eliminate your distractions.

Distractions are all around us and, for many people still working from home, they may be amplified nowadays. Unless you’re making work-related calls, set your phone out of arm’s reach from where you’re working. It can also be difficult to separate yourself from social media and the constantly-changing news cycle. Turn off the television or, better yet, find a location in your office or home without a television. By eliminating these distractions, you’ll be able to focus on what’s most important to your business.

Focus on one task at a time.

Being able to multitask has its benefits. If you’re a successful multitasker, you’re sometimes able to accomplish more tasks in a shorter period of time. In many cases, though, multitasking actually shortens your attention span, making it difficult to complete any single task. At the start of each day, choose your priorities and move in the order of most to least important. You’ll be more able to focus and pay full attention to each goal you’ve set.

Take a brain break.

It’s smart to mix in a few short breaks during the workday. It doesn’t matter how you spend this time, but find something that you enjoy. Grab a snack, read a few pages of a book or listen to your favorite podcast for 15 minutes. By doing this, your attention span will improve greatly when you get back to work, and this will help you become more productive as the day goes on.

By following the steps listed above, you’ll be able to take better care of your attention span and find it easier to accomplish your daily goals. Focus on your mental and physical health and beware of overworking yourself to the point of exhaustion. Once you find the right balance, you’ll be on track to succeed like never before.
