Telling a high performer to stop doing so much is like telling a cattle dog to stop herding.
Doing a lot is an innate quality for some people.
When they get overwhelmed, they are often told the solution to their overwhelm is to stop doing so much. What they really need is to start doing something they are not already doing.
High-performing people have a high-octane brain. They are able to do most everything exceptionally well. This means they often find themselves doing all the things. For a time, this may fit into their life. As they continue to carry the load, adding this and that along the way, something begins to change.
The weight begins to weigh on them.
Why?
They never learned to prioritize.
When the day of overwhelm comes, and it will come, they often hide.
What they need to do is to start learning to prune so they can keep going strong doing the everything they were made to be.
They were not made to do less.
What does it look and feel like for you to prioritize, or prune, in your own life when things get to be too busy? Do you find the art of pruning to be difficult? If so, how so?
What do you need that you don’t already have to pick up your shears, prioritize and thrive today?
