In 2026, our nation reaches a remarkable milestone—250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. America 250 is more than a birthday celebration or a single day of fireworks on July 4th. It is a year-long opportunity to reflect on the principles that have guided our nation for two and a half centuries and to recommit ourselves to the values that unite us as Americans.

The story of America is one of perseverance, sacrifice, innovation, and freedom. From the founding generation that risked everything to secure liberty, to the countless citizens who have worked to build strong communities and protect our way of life, each generation has contributed to the American story. America 250 invites us to honor that legacy while looking forward to the future we will leave for the next generation.

Here in Idaho, those founding principles remain deeply rooted in our culture. Idahoans value hard work, personal responsibility, faith, family, and service to others. We also embrace something that has become increasingly rare in today’s world—being good neighbors. Whether it’s helping someone move hay, checking on an elderly neighbor during a storm, supporting a local fundraiser, or simply lending a hand when someone is in need, neighborliness remains one of the greatest strengths of our communities.

Twin Falls is a perfect example of the American spirit in action. Our community was built through determination and vision. From the irrigation projects that transformed the Magic Valley into productive farmland to the entrepreneurs, educators, first responders, and volunteers who serve our community today, Twin Falls reflects the strength that comes from people working together toward a common purpose.

As we celebrate America 250, it is important to remember a timeless truth: “United we stand, divided we fall.” These words have carried special meaning throughout our nation’s history. America has faced wars, economic hardships, natural disasters, and social challenges, yet we have endured because Americans have repeatedly found ways to come together in pursuit of a greater good.

While we may disagree on policies or politics, we share far more than what divides us. We all want safe communities, opportunities for our children, and a prosperous future for our families. The America 250 celebration reminds us that citizenship is not just about enjoying freedoms—it is also about fulfilling responsibilities to our neighbors and communities.

The next 250 years will present new challenges and opportunities. Meeting them will require the same courage, innovation, and unity that have defined America since 1776. By teaching our history, preserving our traditions, and engaging in our communities throughout this year-long commemoration, we ensure that the values that built this nation continue to thrive.

As Twin Falls and communities across Idaho celebrate America 250, let us take pride in our heritage while renewing our commitment to one another. Let us be good neighbors, active citizens, and stewards of the freedoms entrusted to us. Our nation is strongest when we remember that despite our differences, we are all part of the same American story. Together, united in purpose and respect, we can continue building a future worthy of the generations who came before us and those who will follow.
