Vision is something many of us take for granted. We wake up, open our eyes, read a text message, drive to work, watch our children play, and go about our day without giving much thought to how important healthy vision is. But for many people, access to routine eye care and glasses is not a given. That is the heart behind Giving Sight Day, an annual statewide day of service that brings Oklahoma optometrists and their teams together to help make eye care more accessible to those who need it.

What Is Giving Sight Day?

Giving Sight Day is an Oklahoma initiative organized by the Oklahoma Association of Optometric Physicians (OAOP). In 2026, Oklahoma will celebrate the seventh annual Giving Sight Day on Saturday, October 3. Participating optometry practices across the state open their doors to provide complimentary eye examinations to individuals in need of vision care. The goal is simple: increase access to eye care, promote healthy vision, and give Oklahoma communities an opportunity to experience firsthand the difference that quality eye care can make. While each participating practice determines how it will structure its event, the statewide effort is united by one common belief: clear vision and healthy eyes should be accessible to everyone.

Why Access to Eye Care Matters

Poor vision can affect nearly every part of daily life. For children, uncorrected vision problems can interfere with reading, classroom performance, sports, and development. For adults, vision problems can affect employment, driving, independence, and quality of life. And sometimes, the person struggling to see may not even realize that their vision could be significantly improved with proper care. Access is often the biggest barrier. Giving Sight Day helps remove one of those barriers by providing an opportunity for individuals who may otherwise postpone or go without an eye examination to receive care.

Fort Gibson Family Eyecare Is Proud to Participate!!

This year, Fort Gibson Family Eyecare is excited to participate in Giving Sight Day for the first time. As a locally owned optometry practice, serving the Fort Gibson community is about more than simply providing eye exams and glasses. It is about being a resource for families, children, seniors, and individuals throughout our community. Giving Sight Day is an opportunity for our team to put that philosophy into action. On Saturday, October 3, Fort Gibson Family Eyecare will be offering complimentary eye examinations and glasses as part of Giving Sight Day.
