Living near the beach means most of us think about sunscreen in the summer, but skin health is a year-round commitment. November’s National Healthy Skin Month is a timely reminder for our PCB West patients to keep that commitment going.
A solid routine is straightforward: cleanse gently, moisturize daily, and wear broad-spectrum sunscreen, SPF 30 or higher, every day, not just when you’re headed to the water. Consistent protection is what prevents the sun damage that builds up over years, both in how your skin looks and in your long-term health.
This is also a good time to start checking your own skin regularly. Once a month, look over your arms, legs, back, and scalp for anything new, using the ABCDE method as your guide: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, a Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, or a spot that’s Evolving. Any of these warrants a closer look from a provider.
Skin cancer is one of the most treatable cancers when caught early, and an annual full-body skin exam remains one of the most effective ways to catch it. Many spots we treat are found during a routine exam, before a patient ever noticed a change.
If you haven’t had your skin checked this year, let this be the month you schedule it. Our team at PCB West is here to help make it easy.
