Built on Faith, Grit, and Community: The Story of North Georgia Crawlspace
Every business has a beginning, but not every beginning comes with a roadmap.
When I started North Georgia Crawlspace, there was no five-year plan taped to the wall and no guarantee this would even work. What I did have was faith, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to step into the unknown and trust that the Lord would guide my path even when I couldn’t see what was ahead.
I knew the work. I knew the trade. And I knew the hard dedication and sacrifices it would take.
In the early days, it was just me handling inspections, hauling materials, crawling under homes, and completing one to three jobs a month alone. I heard the people saying it wouldn’t last, that the industry would phase out. I watched people come and go, some I hired and some who later became competition. Through all of it, I learned something no business book can teach you. A business isn’t built overnight. It’s built with trust, family, friends, and truly believing in yourself even when you fail.
Especially when you fail.
Those first two years were about service more than profit. I accepted nearly every job that came my way, not because it always made sense financially, but because someone needed help. I showed up for homes others wouldn’t touch and people who just needed someone they could count on. Eventually, it reached a point where I couldn’t do everything alone anymore.
Growth didn’t happen at all at once. It came in stages; one hire at a time, long days, late nights, and plenty of lessons learned the hard way. With growth comes change, and with change comes growth. Learning to embrace that truth has been one of the biggest lessons of this journey.
Today, North Georgia Crawlspace looks very different than it did in the beginning, but the heart behind it has never changed. We now operate with a team of five, five trucks on the road, and an office and shop space that we call home. None of this would be complete without recognizing the real boss, my daughter Piper.
Piper loves this company in a way that still amazes me. She’ll ask how many job sites we’re going to that day or how many houses we worked on that week. She takes business cards in her book bag to school and tells people, “Call my company, my daddy will help you,” like she’s already running sales. On job sites, she’s telling the crew good job, wanting to crawl under houses to see what everyone is working on, and making sure she says hello to everyone. To her, this isn’t just a business. It’s family. Seeing that reminds me exactly why I started all of this in the first place.
By no means are we finished. We are still very much in the growing pains, especially when it comes to finding quality hires who share our values. But those challenges reinforce something I believe deeply. Local businesses matter.
We live here. We work here. We raise our families here. We understand what it’s like to live in these communities, what people can afford, and why attention to detail matters. Not every job we’ve taken has been about making a profit. Many have been about doing what’s right and providing a service someone can truly count on.
In 2025 alone, we helped 275 total clients. Seventy-five were home closings where local real estate agents trusted us with their clients’ new homes and investments. Thirty-two were new construction builds, where builders who could do much of the work themselves chose us because they wanted a company their clients could trust long after moving in day. Forty-five were repeat clients who owned second homes or had us return for additional work beyond our normal scope. One hundred twenty three were brand new clients who found us through referrals or organic word of mouth.
Looking back, one of the most rewarding feelings is driving down the road and saying, “We worked on that house.” Remembering the nice family who baked us cookies or laughing about the crazy cat lady. We truly see it all. Those moments become part of the story and part of the reason we love what we do.
Going into year four, growth began to mean more than just business. It meant giving back. We became more involved in local charities and community efforts because success means nothing if it isn’t shared. Hiring locally means that today, six families have a roof over their heads and food on the table because of this company. That responsibility matters deeply to me.
As we look ahead, our goal for 2026 is to be fully operating across all three states we serve. Our hub in Ellijay will continue to handle Georgia and Western North Carolina, while we prepare to open a new hub in Upstate South Carolina, where I spend half of my time with my daughter. To better serve our clients, we’ll be hiring a dedicated office team member to manage calls and emails. Any small business owner knows this struggle. By midday, it’s easy to have 50 calls and still not have time to eat lunch. Being wanted is a blessing, but with that comes busy days, longer wait times, and the responsibility to grow the right way. With this next step, we hope to better serve our clients, shorten wait times, and continue delivering the level of care people expect from us.
We also plan to expand our team in the field so we can stretch our services and coverage area while maintaining quality. In 2026, we will be launching a more in depth Realtor Program to better support agents and closings, along with structured builder packages and partnerships designed to help builders and their clients long after construction is complete. Most importantly, we will continue working with more local lenders so families who need help, but may not be able to afford the work upfront, have real options and real support.
We want to extend our deepest thanks to all of the North Georgia communities we proudly serve, to our clients throughout Western North Carolina, and most importantly to our hometown of Ellijay. Ellijay is where this company was born, where it was supported in the early days, and where the foundation of who we are was built. The trust, encouragement, and word of mouth support from local families, neighbors, agents, builders, and business owners have made this journey possible. We don’t take that support lightly. Every home we work on represents a relationship, a family, and a community that believed in us. Because of you, we’ve been able to grow, give back, and continue building something we’re truly proud of right here at home.
This journey hasn’t been perfect. There have been setbacks, tough decisions, and moments of doubt. But through the unknown and the uncharted territory, I’ve trusted the process and trusted the Lord to guide the way.
North Georgia Crawlspace was built on faith, hard work, and heart. We’re proud of how far we’ve come, and we know we’re not done yet.
Things are only going up from here.
God is our leader.
