Spring has a way of inviting us to begin again. As the weather warms and the days grow longer here in Jacksonville, many of us feel the urge to refresh our homes, routines and even our skin.
After the cooler months, it is common for skin to look a little dull or uneven. Winter air, indoor heating and heavier moisturizers can leave behind a layer of buildup that keeps the complexion from looking its brightest.
One of the simplest ways to refresh the skin for the new season is a treatment called dermaplaning.
Dermaplaning is a gentle exfoliation performed by a licensed esthetician using a specialized blade to carefully remove dead skin cells and the fine facial hair many people call “peach fuzz.” While the word blade may sound intimidating, the treatment itself is very relaxing and completely painless when performed by a trained professional.
What makes dermaplaning so effective is what it removes. Over time, dead skin naturally accumulates on the surface of the face. That buildup can make the complexion appear tired, prevent skincare products from absorbing well and cause makeup to sit unevenly on the skin.
By carefully removing that outer layer, dermaplaning reveals the healthy skin underneath and allows moisturizers, serums and sunscreen to penetrate more effectively.
Spring is an ideal time for this treatment. As humidity rises and we spend more time outdoors, the skin begins adjusting to warmer temperatures and increased sun exposure. Starting the season with a smooth, refreshed surface helps the skin adapt and maintain a healthy balance.
Many clients also love how their skin feels afterward. Makeup tends to glide on more evenly, and the complexion often has an immediate glow.
One question I hear often is whether dermaplaning causes facial hair to grow back thicker. Fortunately, that is simply a myth. The fine hair removed during dermaplaning grows back exactly the same as it was before.
For most people, treatments every four to six weeks help maintain healthy, balanced skin and keep that refreshed look throughout the season.
Over time, though, I have noticed that many clients return for more than the visible results. A facial appointment often becomes one of the few moments in a busy life where someone can simply pause.
When someone settles into the treatment bed, the pace of the day slows. Shoulders soften. Breathing becomes easier. Sometimes women talk about what they are carrying in life, and sometimes they simply rest.
Moments like that remind me that beauty spaces can be more than places for treatments. They can be places where people feel seen, cared for, and restored.
Spring is a season of renewal. Caring for your skin can be one small way to welcome that fresh start.
