Hello Neighbors!

I remember a time when haircare consisted of shampoo and conditioner, and if you grew up in the 80’s like me, A LOT of hairspray.

Today, the scalp is finally getting the recognition it deserves, and I am here for it! Enter: Head Spas, scalp rituals, and scalp treatments- the wellness world’s

not-so-secret obsession and the ultimate upgrade to your self-care routine.

Why the Scalp Is Having a Moment

Here’s the thing, your scalp is skin too, just with a higher concentration of hair follicles, oil glands, and circulation needs. And just like your face and body, when

neglected, it can show dryness, itchiness, and a dull build up. But also just like your face and body, when it’s cared for, everything improves. As a seasoned aesthetician,

I educate by facial clients on the importance of proper exfoliation, nourishing serums, and peptide packed moisturizers, but now, we’re taking it all the way to the top.

It’s a “crowning” moment.

What Is a Head Spa, Exactly?

Originating in Japan, a Head Spa is a deeply relaxing, scalp-focused treatment that blends luxury spa rituals with scalp and hair wellness. I’ve watched TikTok and Instagram Head Spa videos and could actually sense how good this treatment must feel.

I think I was manifesting it because I was recently introduced to the newly opened Mystic Salon and Head Spa. This gorgeous salon is located at 80 Stongington Rd in Mystic.  What began as curiosity quickly turned into a full-blown scalp awakening—and yes, it ended with a beautiful blowout (inclusive with head spa treatments) that made me feel like I could conquer the world. While you receive the euphoric scalp, hair treatment, and head massage (ask for a thorough scalp massage), and steam, your whole body is also massaged in the reclining massage chair. Sessions are offered in 30-, 60-, and 90-minute increments. You can also check out Muse Medical Aesthetics in East Lyme, CT for head spa treatments.

The scalp is the new face, so treat yourself to a little scalp luxury. You’ll thank me for it.

Be well, spa often, wear your sunscreen.
