Summer Road Trips Start With Vehicle Prep: A Few Simple Maintenance Checks Can Help Keep Your Family Safe, Cool, and Off the Side of the Highway This Summer

As summer rolls around again we look forward to family vacations, time by the pool or at the beach. The kids are looking forward to getting out of school, maybe even graduating. Lots of planning and preparations are happening. A lot of these activities are inevitably going to involve your vehicle. Pools and summer time cooking is definitely something to look forward to, but not on your car or truck. You don’t want to go use your vehicle and find a pool of any liquid underneath it. On your next oil change be sure to have your service person check all the fluid levels, inspect the belts and hoses and maybe even pressure test the cooling system. Ninety-five degrees isn’t too bad when you are at the beach and that cool water is close by but sitting on the shoulder of the road in ninety-five degree heat waiting for the tow truck sucks. Speaking of cooking, as long as your cooling system is in good shape, there is another type of cooking. You inside the car. Take a tip from the army, let your air conditioner be all it can be. When you take you vehicle in for a service have them take a vent temperature for the air conditioning. On a ninety degree day that vent temperature should be no higher than forty-two degrees, if it isn’t your ac is not working hard enough for you and should be serviced as well. I hope all of you out there enjoy a safe and happy summer. Cheers!
