As the days grow shorter, Walnut Creek Automotive shares an affordable way to brighten your headlights and make nighttime driving a little less stressful.

Fall is settling in with cooler temperatures (finally) and shorter days (sadly). Many people can avoid driving in the dark all through the summer, this is rarely the case come fall and winter. Obviously, being a car guy, I’m going to tell you to make sure your wiper blades are in good shape as well as your tires. There is one thing on your vehicle that most people take for granted that they can’t change, their headlights. Everyone has seen vehicles running around with their headlight lenses so fogged it looks like someone coming at you holding a candle instead of modern lighting. There are lots of products on the market that claim to clear those lenses with a simple swipe of a cloth. I don’t think I have to tell you that those products do not work as shown on the commercial. There are products out there that do work as advertised but they require lots of time, hard work and tools most people don’t have. If you go online and look at aftermarket headlights that fit your vehicle, most can be purchased for $150.00 to $200.00 per headlight, a huge discount over factory replacements. With installation this can set you back $700.00 to $800.00 or more, not something most people want to spend money on with Christmas right around the corner. Walnut Creek Automotive as well as some other shops in the area offer headlight polishing that restores the lenses to a virtually new look for around $150.00 for both lights. Ah, you caught that virtually, didn’t you? Some lenses have hazing on the inside or microcracking in the lense material itself, these lights won’t clean up as advertised and we will tell you that up front.

Another solution is to get cleaner lights. By cleaner I mean a different frequency of light as all legal headlights are regulated to 55 watts. If you combine lense cleaning with a whiter headlight bulb it can take a lot of stress out of that nighttime drive to the folks house for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Something to think about next time you are getting an oil change or tire rotation.

I could use a little stress relief myself around Thanksgiving as I am taking my fiancée on an eleven day cruise on the Queen Mary 2 out of New York to the Caribbean where we will be married on the ship by the Captain.

I kid, Kimberly and I have been together for nineteen wonderful years and thought it would be cool and somewhat unique to get married at sea. Should make it easier for me to remember the date of our anniversary as well, so win win. I wish everyone out there a wonderful holiday season and to be safe out there. If I thought it might help I would ask you to remember my Green Bay Packers in your prayers but alas I don’t think its going to be our year. Cheers.
