Why Proper Tire Pressure and Wheel Alignment Matter

Your tires are the only part of your vehicle that actually touches the road, which makes proper tire maintenance extremely important for both safety and performance. Two of the most commonly overlooked maintenance items are keeping tires properly inflated and making sure your vehicle stays aligned.

When tires are underinflated, they create more rolling resistance, which can reduce fuel economy and cause the tires to wear faster along the outer edges. Underinflated tires can also run hotter, increasing the risk of a blowout—especially during long trips or hot weather.

Overinflated tires can be just as problematic. Too much air pressure causes the center of the tire to wear faster and can reduce traction because less of the tire is making contact with the road.

Proper tire pressure helps your vehicle handle better, improves braking performance, extends tire life, and helps maximize fuel efficiency. Checking tire pressure regularly is especially important during seasonal temperature changes, as colder weather can cause tire pressure to drop.

Wheel alignment is equally important. Over time, potholes, curbs, rough roads, and normal wear can cause your vehicle’s alignment angles to shift. When your alignment is off, your vehicle may pull to one side, your steering wheel may sit crooked, and your tires can wear unevenly.

Poor alignment can shorten the life of your tires and place additional stress on suspension and steering components. Replacing tires is expensive, and uneven wear caused by alignment issues can significantly reduce their lifespan.

Maintaining proper tire pressure and having your alignment checked regularly are simple steps that can improve safety, save money, and help your vehicle drive the way it was designed to.
