Your breathing and sleep challenges may not be what you think. Studies have shown that in up to 98 percent of patients with OSA, the sleep disorder is caused by abnormal anatomical  features—most notably, an underdeveloped mouth and jaw.

While an underdeveloped jaw may seem like an inconsequential cosmetic issue, the truth is that it could be the root cause of OSA, a serious sleep disorder that is associated with a number of chronic, life-threatening health concerns. Additionally, mouth breathing has been confirmed to have a significant negative impact on your health, contributing to disease, cracked teeth, TMJ pain, and dry mouth, just to name a few. Our goal at Family Dentistry of Okeechobee is to help you improve sleep, decrease tooth decay, and boost your overall health.

Better Breathing, Deeper Sleep

Improper development of the jaws and oral cavity can lead to an undersized airway where the  tongue is more prone to fall into the back of the throat, causing the airway to collapse— especially at night. By reshaping and expanding the oral cavity, your airway may also expand,  allowing you to both breathe and sleep more deeply.

How do you know if we can help you? Symptoms of airway obstruction are often identified in  the mouth. By answering a few brief questions, we can evaluate how to help you.

The first step is a Sleep Assessment. The purpose of a sleep assessment is to evaluate your sleep quality and determine the severity of your sleep apnea, if present. Dr. Laskey will provide a home sleep test that will be read & analyzed by our team of professionals.

Next, a Medical Diagnosis will be provided along with the recommended treatment options for  your individualized particular case. After a comprehensive exam & evaluation, Dr. Laskey will  create a treatment plan based on your specific needs and the latest in clinical studies and  advanced technology. This treatment plan will likely include a number of integrative therapies  that have been proven to ensure the best treatment outcomes.
