‘Wait … My Dentist Does Botox? No Waaaay!’

  • Copied!

Most people associate Botox with smoothing wrinkles or helping someone look a little more refreshed. While it certainly can do that, Botox has been used safely in medicine for decades, and its medical uses extend far beyond cosmetics.

In fact, Botox is used to help treat a variety of medical conditions, including muscle disorders, excessive sweating, and chronic migraines. For many people living with chronic migraines, it has been a remarkably effective treatment, helping reduce both the frequency and severity of their headaches.

So, what does that have to do with your dentist?

Quite a lot, actually.

As dentists, we spend our days treating much more than teeth. Every day we evaluate the muscles that move your jaw, the joints that allow you to chew, and the forces that can wear down, crack, or even fracture teeth. When those muscles become overactive, it makes perfect sense that your dentist may be able to help.

  • Do you wake up with sore jaw muscles?
  • Morning headaches?
  • Have you ever chipped a tooth or broken a filling for what seemed like no reason?

If so, you may be clenching or grinding your teeth while you sleep without even realizing it.

Imagine doing hundreds of push-ups every night with your jaw muscles while the rest of your body is asleep. That’s essentially what some people are doing night after night.

For the right patient, Botox can gently relax those overworked muscles, reducing excessive force while still allowing you to chew, smile, laugh, and speak normally. That can mean less strain on your teeth, jaw joints, and muscles. Many patients notice less jaw soreness and fewer tension headaches, while others appreciate helping protect their crowns, veneers, implants, and natural teeth from years of heavy grinding.

And yes… Botox can also soften forehead lines, frown lines, and crow’s feet. That’s the benefit everyone knows about. But in a dental office, cosmetic improvement is often just one piece of a much bigger picture.

So, the next time someone says, “Your dentist does Botox?” you can smile and reply…

“Actually… it makes perfect sense.”

Because sometimes it’s not about looking younger.

Sometimes it’s about feeling better.
