Healthcare is built on compassion, expertise and dedication, and behind many of the services that keep our community healthy are women who lead, serve and advocate for their patients every day. On June 27, West Georgia Gastroenterology Associates and Tanner Healthcare sponsored Women of Healthcare, an inspiring gathering at Sunset Hills Country Club created to celebrate, educate and empower women in medicine.
Developed by Dr. Thelma Wiley-Lucas and her dedicated team, the event brought together approximately 50 physicians, advanced practice providers and healthcare leaders from across the region. The goal was simple but meaningful: create a space where women could connect, learn from one another and leave encouraged to continue making a difference in the lives of their patients and the community.
Throughout the afternoon, respected physicians and community leaders shared presentations on topics including caring for women patients, supporting aging parents, leadership, and balancing successful careers while raising confident, empowered children. The conversations highlighted both the challenges and rewards of working in healthcare while reinforcing the importance of supporting those who spend their careers caring for others.
One of the most memorable moments came during a table discussion centered around the question, “How do you achieve all of your goals?” A guest from Savannah offered advice that resonated throughout the room: “Life is made up of multiple phases. Don’t put the expectation on yourself to achieve everything at once. Be okay where you are at the moment.”
The message reflected the spirit of the event, reminding attendees that leadership is strengthened through encouragement, shared experiences and genuine connection.
Guests described the gathering as “beautiful, meaningful and engaging,” with one attendee saying she left feeling “seen, supported and part of an amazing sisterhood.” Another shared her appreciation for seeing so many outstanding women in healthcare come together to encourage one another.
Supporting women in healthcare ultimately benefits everyone. By creating opportunities to share knowledge, build relationships and develop as leaders, healthcare professionals are better equipped to provide exceptional care for their patients and strengthen the communities they serve.
West Georgia Gastroenterology Associates remains committed to caring for every patient while investing in the health of the community through education, outreach and the early detection of colorectal cancer. The practice also hopes Women of Healthcare will become an annual tradition, continuing to inspire the women whose compassion, expertise and leadership help shape a healthier future for West Georgia.
