A Smarter Way to Make Financial Decisions

Local seminars at the library offer a practical starting point for retirement, tax, investment, and business-owner planning conversations.

Major financial decisions rarely happen in isolation. Retirement income, taxes, investments, Social Security, required distributions, insurance, estate considerations, and business-owner decisions often overlap. A choice made in one area can affect the others, sometimes in ways families do not see until later.

That is why October Effect is hosting educational retirement seminars at the library for local residents who want to better understand the bigger picture before making important financial moves.

The seminars are designed for retirees, pre-retirees, business owners, and families who want a clearer understanding of how retirement planning decisions may fit together. Topics may include retirement income planning, tax-aware withdrawal strategies, Social Security considerations, required minimum distributions, Roth conversion considerations, investment risk, and planning before or after the sale of a business.

For business owners, the transition or sale of a company can be one of the largest financial events of a lifetime. Sale proceeds, taxes, retirement income, investment strategy, estate considerations, and family goals all need to be considered together. For retirees and pre-retirees, similar coordination is important when deciding how and when to draw income, how investments should support retirement goals, and how tax issues may affect long-term planning.

These conversations can be especially useful for people who have multiple retirement accounts, a business, an existing advisor, changing income needs, or questions about whether their current plan still fits the next stage of life.

October Effect’s seminars are educational in nature. The goal is to give attendees a practical starting point, not a one-size-fits-all answer. Each one-hour seminar is structured to help people ask better questions, recognize common planning issues, and consider whether their current financial picture is properly coordinated.

The seminars are held twice monthly on Monday evenings at the library. Spouses and guests are welcome, and registration is requested so seating can be planned appropriately.

If you are preparing for retirement, reviewing your current plan, considering a business sale, or simply looking for a second opinion before making major financial decisions, attending a seminar can be a helpful first step.

October Effect helps Coastal Virginia families and business owners take a more coordinated view of retirement, taxes, investments, and long-term planning.
