As summer comes to an end some of us are cheering the start of the new school year and others dreading it. Change is difficult and the transitions that come along with it.
Everyone has just come off a super fun and exciting summer break. Some went on extravagant vacations, some went to visit grandparents, some attended summer camps and others enjoyed their time with the ever-popular staycation.
No matter what your family elected to do over the past 10+ weeks, everyone will be going through some kind of transition soon. No matter if your child is transitioning between Preschool classrooms, transitioning into kindergarten for the first time or between Middle School and High School, it is important to remember that change breeds stress.
Our children are eager to please us as parents, and we must remember that with each stage of growth brings new additional challenges that must be considered as we thrust our expectations upon our kids.
Positive reinforcement, encouragement, active listening and unconditional support are imperative traits that as parents we must embrace as we do our best to provide the best possible opportunities for our children.
School year expectations have changed dramatically over the past 10-years, and we anticipate even greater change in the years to come. Children today when entering the school system are expected to know far more than was expected in the past. Kindergarten was once a time to play and color while now although those activities are extremely important parts of the day, the curriculum is far more rigorous than ever before.
