There is a moment in almost every vacation when you think, This is why I travel.
Maybe it’s opening the curtains in the morning to discover a completely new coastline outside your window. Maybe it’s lingering over dinner in a charming European town, walking through a centuries-old village, or seeing a place you’ve dreamed about for years finally come to life.
Those are the moments we remember.
What we don’t necessarily want to remember are the hours spent figuring out train schedules, transportation, hotels, tickets, luggage, and all the other details that can turn an exciting vacation into a complicated project.
That may be one reason I’m seeing more travelers looking for a different kind of vacation: one that still feels personal and adventurous, but where much of the hard work has already been done.
Two of the best ways to accomplish that are cruising and guided land travel. And while they offer very different experiences, both can make seeing the world remarkably easy.
The Appeal of Unpacking Once
For travelers who want to see multiple destinations without constantly changing hotels, cruising is hard to beat.
Imagine visiting several countries or islands while unpacking your suitcase only once. Your hotel travels with you, your dining and entertainment are nearby, and each morning can bring an entirely new destination.
Today’s cruise experience may also surprise travelers who haven’t sailed in a while.
