Between keeping up with busy family schedules, running local businesses, and squeezing in rounds at the country club, life for our neighbors is constantly on the move. But how often do we actually stop to check in with how our bodies are moving?
Enter Kathryn Deaton, founder of Elite PT. Kathryn is on a mission to challenge the traditional, conveyor-belt approach to physical therapy—where patients are often shuffled through high-volume clinics seeing up to 25 people a day—and replace it with a personalized, one-on-one concierge model.
Moving Beyond the “PT Mill”
For many of us, physical therapy brings up images of repetitive leg lifts with a rubber band in a crowded room. Kathryn saw a fundamental flaw in that system early on.
“I really wanted to change that landscape,” Kathryn shares. “Accepting insurance wasn’t going to allow me to give that full, one-on-one custom care. When insurance stops approving visits just because your acute pain is gone, you’re left with unaddressed strength deficits or limited range of motion. I don’t want you back in two months—I want to address the root cause.”
Her pivot came from a desire to avoid practitioner burnout and deliver true, ethical care. By moving to a full 60-minute, personalized model, Kathryn spends time building genuine relationships with her clients, tailoring movement care directly to their unique, everyday lifestyles.
Proactive Longevity Over Pain
A common myth around health is that you only call a physical therapist after a major surgery or a mishap on the tennis court. Kathryn’s vision is focused squarely on longevity and preventative care. In fact, about 25% of her current clients are completely symptom-free.
“Insurance dictates that you have to be in pain to be seen, but pain shouldn’t be the dictator,” she says. “The healthier you get, the more in tune you are with your body. You can feel an ache coming on long before it becomes a major injury.”
Whether it’s staying active on the court, skiing, or simply jumping on the trampoline with the kids without discomfort, her goal is to normalize healthy movement—and reject the idea that everyday aches are “just part of getting older.”
3 Simple Movement Hacks for Daily Life
Even if you aren’t currently stopping into the clinic, Kathryn offers three simple micro-habits we can all weave into our routines to keep our bodies feeling like a million bucks:
- Hydrate First Thing: Drink 20 to 32 ounces of room-temperature water before touching caffeine, exercising, or stepping into your morning. It wakes up your digestion, metabolism, and overall motility.
- Change Your Posture Often: The single best posture out there is simply a change of posture. “I won’t scold you for sitting cross-legged,” Kathryn laughs, “as long as you switch it up, stand, or stretch every 20 to 30 minutes.”
- Pockets of Movement: Take short bursts of walking throughout the day. Park a few spots further away, or take the stairs if your destination is five flights or less (unless you’re wearing cute stilettos—then you get a pass!).
What’s Next for Elite PT
With a growing team and strong community partnerships—including a presence at local spots like Peak Fitness Center, The Sweat Society, and Fit Report—Elite PT is expanding its footprint with new satellite locations. Looking ahead, Kathryn envisions a full-scale wellness experience featuring recovery lounges, cold plunges, infrared saunas, and small-group strength training guided directly by Doctors of Physical Therapy to help our community move better for years to come.
