If you’re like many of us, you probably have an American flag that’s been proudly displayed outside your home for years. Over time, even the most cherished flags become faded, frayed, or worn by the elements. Instead of wondering what to do with it, we’re here to help.
In partnership with James River American Legion Post 354, Vacca Family Dentistry will continue serving as a community collection site where our neighbors can bring American flags to be respectfully retired.
What began as a special project leading up to our nation’s 250th Anniversary celebration on Independence Day quickly became something much more meaningful.
The response from our patients and neighbors reminded us how deeply the American flag still means to people throughout our community. Because of that support, we’ve decided to continue accepting flags year-round.
During our initial collection, more than 50 American flags were entrusted to us for proper retirement. Many of these flags had flown proudly outside homes, businesses, schools, and community organizations before becoming faded or weathered over time. Rather than being discarded, each flag will receive the dignity and respect it deserves.
We were also touched by the generosity of one of our patients, who made a monetary donation to the James River American Legion to support its ongoing work serving veterans and our local community. Acts of kindness like these remind us how much can be accomplished when neighbors come together.
The American flag represents our nation’s history, the sacrifices of those who have served, and the freedoms we enjoy every day.
When a flag is no longer suitable for display, the U.S. Flag Code recommends that it be retired in a respectful manner. Organizations such as the American Legion conduct ceremonial flag retirement services to ensure that tradition continues.
For more than 35 years, Vacca Family Dentistry has been honored to care for generations of families throughout our surrounding communities.
We believe caring for our neighbors extends beyond dentistry. Whether it’s supporting local organizations, honoring our veterans, or simply helping preserve traditions that matter, we are proud to play a small part in strengthening the community we all call home.
If you have an American flag that is faded, torn, frayed, or no longer suitable for display, we invite you to bring it by our office during regular business hours. In partnership with James River American Legion Post 354, we will make sure it is retired with the dignity and respect it deserves.
If you’re not sure where we’re located or would like our office hours, you can find everything you need at vaccafamilydentistry.com. Thank you for helping us preserve this meaningful tradition for generations to come.
