Why the St. Jude Dream Home Means So Much to Me

People often ask me what my favorite project has been over the last twenty-plus years.  The truth is it has never been about the biggest house, the most expensive furniture, or the most prestigious address.  It’s always been about the story.  Every home has one.

Sometimes it’s a young couple buying their first home. Sometimes it’s a family saying goodbye to a place filled with memories. Sometimes it’s someone starting over after divorce, grieving the loss of a loved one, or taking a leap into a brand-new chapter of life. I’ve learned that homes hold emotions. They witness our celebrations, our heartbreaks, our laughter, and our prayers. That’s why I’ve always believed that what we do at Lovitt by Design is about so much more than furniture.  We help people tell the next chapter of their story.

But the St. Jude Dream Home…That story is different.

This is our second year having the incredible honor of staging the St. Jude Dream Home, and I honestly can’t put into words how grateful I am.  When Mike White from Buckeye Homes called and asked if Lovitt by Design would stage the home again this year, I was absolutely thrilled. There are phone calls you never forget, and that was one of them.  To be invited back for a second year meant so much to me. It wasn’t just another project on the calendar—it was a vote of confidence, a valued partnership, and another opportunity to be part of something that truly changes lives.

My hope is that this becomes a tradition and that Lovitt by Design has the privilege of partnering with Buckeye Homes for many years to come. Together, we have the opportunity to create something beautiful while supporting one of the most meaningful causes imaginable.

This home isn’t just built with lumber, drywall, flooring, paint, and cabinetry.  It’s built with hope.

Every person who contributes to this project—from the team at Buckeye Homes, to the contractors, electricians, plumbers, painters, suppliers, designers, sponsors, and volunteers—is giving something they have so children and families they’ve never met can have a brighter future.

Think about that for a moment.

An entire community comes together, not because they have to, but because they choose to.  That’s incredibly powerful.  When our team walks into the home, we don’t see empty rooms waiting for furniture.  We see an opportunity.  An opportunity to use the gifts God has entrusted to us in service of something far greater than ourselves.

Every chair we place. Every bed we make. Every piece of artwork we hang. Every accessory we thoughtfully style.  It all becomes part of a much bigger mission.

When someone walks through the front door, I want them to fall in love with the home. I want them to picture family dinners around the table, children laughing in the living room, holidays spent together, and quiet mornings with coffee on the back patio.  Because when they fall in love with the home, they’re reminded why they bought that Dream Home ticket in the first place.  They’re helping provide hope.  They’re helping ensure that families can focus on their child instead of worrying about medical bills, travel expenses, or where they’ll stay while their child receives treatment.  That’s what makes this project so meaningful.

At Lovitt by Design, we’ve always believed that great design changes how people feel.  The St. Jude Dream Home reminds me that generosity changes lives.  As I looked around the finished home, I couldn’t help but think about every hand that touched it before ours.  The vision of Buckeye Homes.  The skilled trades.  The volunteers.  The sponsors.  The countless people who donated their time, talents, and resources. Each person left a piece of themselves behind.  We simply had the honor of helping tell the final chapter before thousands of people walk through the front door.

For more than twenty years, I’ve believed that every home deserves to be loved.  The St. Jude Dream Home reminds me that every child deserves that same love, hope, and opportunity. This project isn’t about showcasing what Lovitt by Design can do. It’s about celebrating what happens when businesses, tradespeople, volunteers, and an entire community come together with one purpose: giving children and their families hope.

To Mike White and everyone at Buckeye Homes, thank you for trusting us once again. It is an honor we will never take for granted.  We are proud to stand beside you in support of St. Jude, and we hope this partnership continues for many years to come.  Because in the end, the most beautiful homes aren’t remembered for their furniture.  They’re remembered for the lives they help change.
