Fall is one of my favorite times of year in Livermore. The mornings are cooler, the vineyards start to change color, the leaves on the trees are glowing, and there’s just something about this season that makes you want your home to feel a little warmer and more inviting. We all love enjoying those special pumpkin lattes, pumpkin pie, and just about anything else pumpkin-flavored that makes this time of year feel so festive. With all of those seasonal comforts in mind, it’s also the perfect time to bring a little of that fall feeling into your home.

Your front porch is a great place to begin. Since it’s the first impression of your home, decorating it for fall can really set the tone. We have local residents who specialize in creating beautiful seasonal porch displays using a variety of pumpkins, hay bales, fall flowers, and greenery. Pumpkins can be layered and cascaded down your front steps and around the porch to create a big impact and make your entry feel warm and welcoming before guests even walk through the door.

The orange and brown tones of fall are also easy to mix into most home color palettes. Brown adds warmth and works beautifully with wood tones and neutral colors, while orange can be used as a pop of color through pumpkins, pillows, flowers, artwork, or other small accents. You don’t need to completely change your décor to bring in the season; a few well-placed touches can make a noticeable difference.

Inside, I like simple changes. Adding a cozy throw blanket, changing out a few pillows, or adding decorative and fun throw pillows can completely change the feel of a room without having to redecorate everything. These pillows can be found at places like Target, TJ Maxx, HomeGoods, and our local holiday shops downtown. Local family-owned Main Street Designs is also a great place to find something special and unique for any holiday. Bringing in warmer textures, adding a few scented candles, or incorporating natural elements like greenery, branches, or seasonal flowers can also make your home feel especially inviting.

Fall is also a great time to take care of some of those little projects we all tend to put off. Touching up paint, changing outdated light fixtures, fixing a loose cabinet handle, or finally organizing that one closet can make your home feel fresh again. Checking smoke detectors plus getting a chimney inspection and cleaning by Charlie Dunn & Sons, will make you feel extra safe when using your fireplace.

And with the holidays right around the corner, I always think about the spaces where people gather. Maybe it’s your kitchen, dining room, family room, or even an outdoor patio with a firepit. A few small decorative changes to lighting, seating, or furniture placement can make those areas feel much more comfortable when friends and family come over.

I also love this time of year for outdoor spaces. We’re lucky in Livermore because we can still enjoy our patios and backyards well into the fall. String lights, outdoor blankets, or even a few seasonal plants can make your backyard feel like an extension of your home. This will make you and your guests feel cozy while sipping on tea, coffee or some of our incredible family-owned local wine varieties.

Your home doesn’t have to be perfect or completely updated to feel special. Sometimes it’s just about making a few thoughtful changes that make it feel comfortable, welcoming, and ready for the season ahead. That’s one of the things I love most about fall; it reminds us to slow down a little, enjoy our homes, and appreciate the spaces where so many of our memories are made.

If you’re looking for fun decorating ideas, local contacts, or favorite places to find seasonal décor and experiences, feel free to contact us. We’d be happy to share some of our local recommendations and help you make your fall season extra special at home.
