Fall in North Georgia is one of my favorite times of year, cooler mornings, changing leaves, football weekends, and lots of time in the stands watching our son perform with the marching band. It’s a busy but enjoyable season. Best of all, we finally get a break from the Georgia summer heat.
Fall is also a great time to care for your home’s exterior.
When homeowners think about exterior painting, curb appeal often comes to mind. A fresh coat of paint can transform a home’s appearance, but its more important job is protecting your home from the elements.
Your home’s exterior faces Georgia’s sun, heat, humidity, rain, and changing temperatures year round.
Over time, this exposure can cause paint to fade, crack, peel, or lose adhesion. As the coating fails, the surfaces underneath become more vulnerable to moisture and deterioration.
That’s why we encourage homeowners to view exterior painting as preventative maintenance, not simply a cosmetic upgrade.
While enjoying the cooler weather, take a few minutes to walk around your home and inspect its exterior. Pay special attention to fascia and soffits, window and door trim, siding, shutters, and other painted surfaces.
Look for peeling or cracking paint, fading, deteriorating caulk, exposed wood, or signs that moisture may be getting behind the coating. Catching these problems early can help prevent more expensive repairs later.

Why Fall?
Fall is one of our favorite seasons for exterior painting in North Georgia. Summer’s extreme heat begins to ease, and the moderate temperatures can provide excellent conditions for paint application.
A Little Help From the Rain
One of our favorite premium exterior products is Sherwin-Williams Emerald® Rain Refresh™ Exterior Acrylic Latex.
Rain Refresh features Self-Cleaning Technology™, which helps dirt wash away when the surface comes into contact with rain or water. This helps the exterior maintain a clean, freshly painted appearance with less maintenance.
It also provides excellent UV and weather protection, especially important for homes exposed to Georgia’s strong sun.
Of course, even the best paint depends on proper preparation. Cleaning, scraping, sanding, caulking, priming where needed, and repairing deteriorated surfaces all help create a lasting exterior finish.

Protect What You’ve Invested In
Your home is likely one of the largest investments you’ll ever make. Maintaining its exterior is one of the simplest ways to help protect it.
If the paint is beginning to show its age, don’t wait until peeling paint or damaged wood makes the decision for you.
A fresh exterior can give your home beautiful curb appeal but more importantly, it’s another layer of protection between your home and the elements.
