My wife has lived with autoimmune disease for over forty years. About twenty years ago I started keeping a running file of research containing studies, emerging treatments, anything that might help. That file grew for two decades. We never questioned the diagnosis itself; it was the verdict, and everything we did was built around managing it.
Along the way, doctor’s visits followed the same shape, year after year, specialist after specialist. Bloodwork. A handful of markers that looked suggestive but never conclusive. A prescription anyway, usually with an admission that they weren’t fully sure it would help. That’s not a knock on any one doctor, but I do have my gripes about the system (this is not the place where I want to hash out those gripes). The point is, a short visit built around a single lab panel isn’t set up to ask why a marker looks that way in this particular person. It’s set up to treat the marker.
Eventually we tried a short cycle of peptides, and something shifted. Her flare-ups eased in a way years of medication hadn’t managed. That result raised a question none of the standard testing had ever answered: why did this work so well when almost nothing else had? We needed more information than a diagnosis code could give us, so we went through genomic testing, the very same testing that’s now the entry point into the S.C.A.L. Wellness (Say Cheese and Lift Wellness) package at the studio.
The results didn’t overturn her diagnosis. She still has autoimmune disease (that part was never in question). What changed was our understanding of how much of what we were seeing was actually that disease, versus something else compounding on top of it. It turned out to be less severe than forty years of flare-ups had made it look.
The testing surfaced three separate issues. First, a set of variants meaning her body can’t produce choline on its own, and she wasn’t getting enough from diet to cover the gap. Second, other variants meant she couldn’t produce collagen either, and what little she had access to came out structurally weaker. And since collagen is in connective tissue, blood vessels, and organ linings, defective collagen gets flagged and cleared by the immune system as routine maintenance. Some portion of what we’d spent decades treating as autoimmune flare-ups may have simply been that cleanup process, running constantly. Third, a variant that slows how her body clears estrogen, letting those metabolites settle into tissue and add inflammation of their own. Three distinct issues stacking on each other; not one undifferentiated disease, a layered picture nobody had reason to look for.
We addressed all three directly: choline supplementation for the first, a processed and bioavailable form of collagen for the second, and support for estrogen clearance for the third. She’s moving better, sleeping better, and can train again without a flare-up afterward. I asked her outright if this could be placebo, because I wanted to be sure. It isn’t. Standard labs tell you whether something falls outside a range, but they don’t tell you why, or what your body is structurally built to do with what you give it. Two people with the same diagnosis can need entirely different protocols, because the bottlenecks underneath aren’t the same. Copying a friend’s supplement stack, or even a well-supported treatment, only works if you share their specific bottleneck, and most of the time, you don’t know if you do.
The program starts with a simple at-home genetic test (a cheek swab, no lab visit, results in two to three weeks), mapping 36 biological pathways covering inflammation, nutrient processing, hormone clearance, and more. From there we build a protocol matched to what your biology actually shows: targeted cellular support and a supplement plan built around your specific gaps, not a generic list.
Some findings need a physician’s decision, not ours (medication changes, further testing, treatment options). For those, we built the Doctor’s Playbook: we lay out the relevant numbers clearly, explain what’s actually at stake in plain language, and hand you one sharp question to bring into the room. Most visits are short, and it’s easy to walk in unsure what to mention or not realize two findings are connected. The Playbook closes that gap, so you and your doctor start from the same clear picture instead of reconstructing it on the spot.
For clients who want to keep that precision going, there’s also SUSTAIN+: a monthly continuation for graduates of the full package, with an ongoing optimization session, async access for protocol questions, real-time adjustments, and targeted lab panels when blood work would sharpen a decision.
We’re wellness practitioners, not physicians. This isn’t a diagnosis or a replacement for medical care, and anything clinical gets referred to the right professional. What we offer is precision: real data about your system, and a plan built to match it.
If you’ve been doing everything “right” and the answers still don’t add up, you might not need another protocol. You might need to know what your own biology has been telling you all along.
