A Little Bling Goes a Long Way

The holidays are here, which means your calendar is suddenly packed with Thanksgiving events, Christmas parties, cocktail hours, family gatherings, office festivities and at least one event where you’re standing in front of your closet saying, “I have absolutely nothing to wear.”

Of course, you do.

Sometimes the secret to a great holiday outfit isn’t buying an entirely new wardrobe (although Drippin’ certainly has the boutiques to shop). It’s adding a little sparkle, a fabulous pair of earrings, a statement necklace or that one accessory that makes everyone ask, “Where did you get that?”

Because during the holidays, a little bling goes a long way.

Here in the Texas Hill Country, holiday style has its own personality. We like things festive, but not fussy. Stylish, but comfortable. And if we can sneak a little Western flair into the mix? Even better.

Start with something simple. Your favorite black dress, a great pair of jeans, a velvet top or even a classic white button-down can become party-ready with the right accessories.

Add an oversized pair of sparkling earrings and suddenly you’re not “wearing the same black dress again.” You’re effortlessly chic.

See how that works?

Jewelry is probably the easiest way to turn up the holiday volume. This is the season when you can get away with a little more sparkle than usual. Rhinestones, metallics, chunky gold, colorful stones and statement earrings are all invited to the party.

And please don’t save the good jewelry for a “special occasion.” It’s the holidays. This IS the special occasion.

Handbags deserve some attention too. A fun clutch, metallic crossbody or embellished beaded bag can completely change an outfit. Your everyday purse may be wonderful, but she doesn’t necessarily need to attend every Christmas party with you. Give her the night off.

Then there are boots.

We are in Texas, after all.

A great pair of boots with a dress is practically a Hill Country holiday uniform. Add turquoise jewelry or a fabulous belt and you’ve mastered that perfect mix of festive and Western without looking like you accidentally wandered in from the rodeo.

The best holiday outfits also have one thing in common: personality!

Wear the earrings that are slightly too big. Carry the sparkly purse. Put on the fabulous boots. Stack the bracelets. Add the necklace.

Just maybe don’t wear all of them at once. We’re going to a Christmas party, not decorating the tree!

At Starrs on Mercer, we believe getting dressed should be fun, especially during the holidays. Whether you’re headed to Thanksgiving dinner, casual Christmas gathering, a Hill Country cocktail party, date night or a big New Year’s Eve celebration, the right accessories can take an outfit from “this will do” to “well, look at you.”

So this holiday season, remember: You don’t always need a brand-new outfit.

Sometimes you just need a little bling.

And maybe a glass of champagne!
