Address Numbers

Please for the love of all that’s good in the world, check the numbers on your house and make sure they are viewable from the street… you know where you live but the rest of the world won’t be able to see your 2 inch stickers from the street. If possible make sure that the numbers have a contrasting color behind them and you can see them from the street at night.

House keys

Take a clear photo of your house key on a dark surface next to a quarter. A spare key can be cut by the photo if a shop knows what they are doing.

House openings

If you need to call out a locksmith please check their background, the shady people that prey on people online also prey on people that are in dire straights. An honest locksmith will have no problem showing who they are. If it feels wrong it probably is, it is ok to question a service person attempting to access your property.

Lubricating locks

Please avoid WD-40 in locks, also avoid graphite if at all possible. The WD is too sticky for locks, it attracts dirt and debris too easily and graphite will build up in the lock and cause more problems in the future. A lubricant with a silicon or Teflon base ingredient is usually the best way to go.
