The Commercials. The scam callers. The junk mail. It’s all about to start, if it hasn’t already. Every fall, anyone with Medicare is going to be bombarded with information about the Medicare AEP. But what is that? Who is it for, and is there anything that YOU need to do? All these questions and more answered below.

Q: What is the Medicare AEP?

A: It’s the time of the year when ANYONE with Medicare can make changes to their Medicare plan. The AEP runs from October 15th-December 7th, and usually, any plan changes during this time go into effect on January 1st.

Q: Do I have to make changes to Medicare plan during this time? OR do I have to reapply for my existing policy?

A: NO and NO! You do not have to do anything necessarily. If you like your plan, you can keep the same plan by doing nothing, assuming the plan isn’t being pulled from the area. HOWEVER, you may want to call a local agent to see what new offerings might be out there, as changes are frequent with certain types of plans.

Q: What can I do about all the scam calls and unwanted soliciting?

A: Unfortunately, not a lot. The best approach I have found is listing your number on the national do not call registry. Aside from that, throw away the junk mail and change the channel on the TV.

Q: What should I be doing during this year’s AEP?

A: My answer to this is always the same: CONTACT YOUR LOCAL AGENT! My doors are always open and my phone is always ready to be answered. So stop in and see me at 583 Main Street in West Liberty, or give me a call at (606)-495-6644

I wish all of you the best of luck in keeping your sanity during this Medicare AEP season. I know ‘ll be needing some of that luck myself. And as always, contact me ASAP if you have any questions!
