Let’s be honest, here in the tristate area we have been enduring sauna for the last few months. The thermostat reads seventy degrees, but one side of the room feels like August in Indiana, while the other side feels like December in Chicago. Maybe you move the furniture, adjust the thermostat, and even briefly consider if your home is haunted. Before you call the HVAC guy, it may be time to confront a possible culprit you haven’t considered. I’m talking about your windows and doors.
Our thermostat only knows what’s happening where it lives – not throughout our home. When you have various temperature zones – windows and doors could be crying for attention.
You can do a bit of investigating and diagnose if the windows or doors are potentially to blame.
- Can you feel air movement around the windows
- Does the glass feel dramatically different from the rest of the room
- Do you see condensation between window panes
- Are certain rooms consistently warmer or cooler than the rest of your home?
- Is it a struggle to open or close – or lock – certain windows or doors?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, it’s a possibility you have found the offender!
Do not panic – not every single issue screams “Full replacement”. Some issues can be resolved with weather sealant, hardware installation, or minor repairs to existing windows and doors.
Questions to consider before replacement:
- What’s causing the problem – is it visible to the untrained eye?
- Is it possible that my windows be repaired rather than replaced?
- How will it be installed?
- Is there a warranty? (Spoiler alert- we always have a warranty at Clear Choice windows)
Your living room doesn’t have to come with a separate forecast. Sometimes the answer isn’t adjusting the internal temperature, its keeping the outside where it belongs: outside of your home. Should you find yourself breaching climate zones to go to the refrigerator for your midnight snack, no worries – I know a guy!
