Shopping small is about much more than making a purchase. It is about supporting neighbors, strengthening our local economy and helping Evansville remain a vibrant place to live, work and raise a family. Every time someone chooses a locally owned business, they are investing in the people who make our community unique.
Small businesses are built by local families, entrepreneurs and employees who care deeply about the communities they serve. They provide jobs, support local schools and organizations, sponsor youth sports teams and contribute to charitable causes. The money spent at a small business is more likely to remain in the Evansville area, creating a positive ripple effect throughout our city.
Small businesses also offer something that cannot always be found at larger retailers: personal service and meaningful connections. Local business owners get to know their customers, celebrate their milestones and help them find products and services that feel personal. These relationships turn an ordinary shopping trip into an experience and help create the welcoming sense of community that makes Evansville feel like home.

This year, we are excited to celebrate Small Business Saturday on Saturday, November 28, by partnering with our local neighbors on Morgan Avenue, HobbyTown USA and Blossoms & Blooms Floral Company, to host a special Small Business Shopping Event. Together, we hope to create a festive day that encourages people to shop locally, discover talented small businesses and enjoy time with family and friends.
Our event will feature a wonderful group of local vendors. Merrymint Event Celebration Boutique will bring its creative approach to making life’s special moments even more memorable with backdrops, creative balloon designs and more! Guests can enjoy beautiful and delicious custom homemade cookies from The Whimsey Whisk, as well as gorgeous homemade cake pops from Baked and Crumbled. We will also have a special picture opportunity for children, making the day an experience the entire family can enjoy.
Events like this demonstrate what is possible when small businesses work together. Instead of simply sharing a shopping center or a city, we can share ideas, customers and opportunities. Collaboration allows us to provide greater value, create memorable experiences and introduce the community to other hardworking local business owners.

As the holiday season begins, we encourage everyone in Evansville to think about where their dollars can make the greatest difference. Choosing a local jeweler, florist, toy store, baker, boutique, food truck or beverage vendor directly supports someone’s dream and helps that business continue serving our community.
When Evansville shops small, we all benefit. We build stronger relationships, create local opportunities and preserve the character that makes our city special. Please join us on Saturday, November 28, to celebrate Small Business Saturday and experience what can happen when local businesses and neighbors come together to support one another.
