A Journey Through the Years: Harahan Veterinary Hospital

I remember being a young girl sitting in the back seat of my parents’ car, always on alert as we passed Abadie Veterinary Clinic. I would rush to the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of a pet heading inside. My love for animals was ingrained in me from the very beginning. I was never without a creature on a leash or tucked into a backpack, a bug safely trapped, or an “emergency” animal that absolutely needed immediate medical attention—so much so that I would walk across Jefferson Highway to the clinic despite repeated warnings that I would be punished if I did it again. I always chose the punishment. It was worth it.

Never in those childhood moments did I imagine that passion would one day become my career. In June of 2021, I walked through the doors of Harahan Veterinary Hospital as the Hospital Manager with eight years of veterinary management experience behind me. That day changed my life. While my first job in veterinary medicine sparked my love for animals, rescue work, and advocacy, Harahan Veterinary Hospital validated that passion and gave me the opportunity to truly live it. This hospital has shaped my path and continues to shape who I am.

There is no secret that the past few years have been challenging, and exhausting at times, but deeply rewarding. Through significant changes, our small but mighty team has remained committed to doing what we do best. I work alongside medical professionals who share the same dedication and heart. We have made mistakes, learned hard lessons, and grown stronger because of them. I often say my team wears invisible capes. While we may not be perfect, you will not find a group more devoted to your pets. From late-night check-ins and baby monitor cameras to critical patients going home for overnight observation, 8271 Jefferson Highway has truly become my second home. I eat my meals here, welcome family visits on long nights, and return every Monday morning alongside my team—ready to do it all again.

Rescue work is at the core of who I am, and Harahan Veterinary Hospital shares that mission. Our culture is rooted in supporting local shelters, rescues, and families who need help caring for their pets. We have lost count of how many animals have come through our doors and once called this hospital home. None of this would be possible without the unwavering support of our staff, doctors, and clients who have believed in our mission through every change.

Thank you for trusting me, supporting this hospital, and allowing us to serve you and your pets. Here’s to many more years of compassion, community, and second chances.
