Have you Ever Fallen in Love?
Have you ever fallen in love? When we use that phrase “falling in love” what we often mean is a rush of emotion—a pounding heart, a sense of belonging, the feeling that you have finally found the one! Many think they have encountered love, but then later realize it was fragile, conditional, and can leave us heart broken.
Consider a person who believes they are “in love” because someone makes them feel seen, wanted, and secure. At first, everything feels perfect. But over time, cracks appear. Affection fades, promises weaken, and conditions emerge: I will love you if you remain this way. Eventually, the relationship collapses, leaving confusion and pain.
True and lasting love is found not in fleeting emotions, but in falling in love with Jesus and resting in the unchanging power of God’s agape love. Scripture reminds us the humans are seeking a love that lasts.. Proverbs 19:22 says, “What is desired in a man is steadfast love.” Our hearts long for something more enduring. That desire, for a permanent love, points us toward God.
When we fall in love with Jesus, we encounter agape love—God’s selfless, unconditional, and eternal love. Unlike emotional or transactional love, agape does not depend on our performance or consistency. Romans 5:8 declares, “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This is love that does not wait for us to improve, mature, or prove ourselves. This love meets us at our worst and calls us into a new life in Him.
Falling in love with Jesus is not merely a moment of passion; it is a transformation of the heart. Jesus Himself said, “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love” (John 15:9). To abide means to remain, to dwell, to make a home. God’s love is not something we visit when we feel spiritual—it is a permanent dwelling place for the soul.
The difference becomes clear over time. False love exhausts us because it demands we earn it. Agape love restores us because it is freely given. First Corinthians 13:8 tells us, “Love never fails.” Human love may falter, but God’s love does not expire, weaken, or walk away.
When we fall in love with Jesus, we are no longer chasing love from broken sources. We are rooted in the One who is love itself: “God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God” (1 John 4:16). In Him, love is no longer something we fear losing. It becomes the foundation on which we live, grow, and love others—secure, whole, and forever held.
