A Fairway to Give Back: The 4th Annual John Passmore Memorial Tournament

Back to Articles

While insurance is great for “what-ifs,” community work is about the “what’s now,” and it’s more energizing to talk about. There’s nothing quite like seeing a community rally together for a good cause and seeing that tangible, local impact firsthand. Insurance is about protecting what you have, but fundraising is about building something new or supporting a cause in need and one dear to me is our 4th Annual – John Passmore Memorial Golf Tournament Wednesday, May 6, 2026.

We started this tournament in honor of a dear friend who was always helping others succeed. Each year, we pick a different local Charity to be the recipient of the proceeds raised from the tournament. Each year, our tournament and our donations have grown. Last year, we were blessed to be able to donate a little over $17,000, which went to Habitat for Humanity Davie. This year’s local charity is NC Rush Triad Soccer Club, whose goal isBuilding Confidence, Character, and Community Through Soccer.

Founded with a mission to make soccer accessible to all, NC Rush Triad Soccer Club provides youth with a safe, supportive environment to learn the game while developing leadership, discipline, and respect. Recognizing the challenges many young people face, NC Rush offers 2–4 days each week of structured physical activity and mentorship designed to promote not only athletic growth but also emotional resilience and personal confidence.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, NC Rush is committed to reducing the financial barriers that keep many children from organized sports. By maintaining some of the lowest fees in the region and offering financial aid, the club ensures every child—regardless of background—has the opportunity to play, grow, and belong. On the field, since 2021, NC Rush teams have earned 7 State Cup Championships, two Regional Championships, 1 National Finalist honors, and a National Championship. Off the field, their College Advisory Program (CAP) has helped numerous players advance to college soccer, continuing their development as student-athletes and leaders.

Beyond competition, NC Rush continues to invest in the Winston-Salem community. In partnership with local businesses, the club has completed four new turf fields and plans to add walking trails to encourage active lifestyles. A futsal court built at Old Town Elementary also provides a safe, accessible space where kids can play and grow through soccer.  Additionally, futsal courts are planned in the near future to be installed near the new turf fields.

At NC Rush, soccer is more than a game—it’s a pathway to confidence, community, and lifelong success. Tryouts in May for Fall 2026! Learn more at www.ncrushtriad.com.   Excellence begins here, Just Play!!

Please help by putting a team together and joining us for a fun-filled day on May 6 at the beautiful Bermuda Run West course.  We are still looking for sponsors, players, and great prizes to raffle off. It’s a Captain’s Choice format, and par is the worst score, to help play move along. There’s a $10,000 Hole in One opportunity; cash prizes, mulligans, throws, raffles, and lunch is provided.
