Future Developments in Dentistry

Scientists are experimenting with stem cells and bioengineered tooth buds that could grow a completely new natural tooth! Instead of implants or bridges, a patient may one day receive a living replacement tooth grown from their own cells.

Some implant centers now use robotguided surgical systems that control the drill position during implant placement. This allows for precise angulation and depth, plus reduced surgical errors.

New restorative materials are being designed to actively fight tooth decay. These smart materialscan: release calcium and phosphate minerals, kill bacteria around any restoration, and help remineralize surrounding enamel.

More advanced saliva diagnostic tests are now being utilized to detect thousands of biological markers, such as oral cancer, periodontal disease, Diabetes, and viral infections. These tests may soon be available that can be used chairside to evaluate patients’ saliva samples.

Augmented reality headsets for dental surgery now allow dentists to see digital treatment plans projected over the patient’s anatomy during surgery, allowing them to view implant position, nerve location, and bone structure in real time.It works something like a GPS system for dental surgery.

Orthodontists can now simulate entire treatments digitally before starting, allowing the patient to see the final result ahead of time. They can predict tooth movement, design custom aligners, and ensure the desired outcome is achieved. It is amazing how quickly our field is transforming, all to better treat you, our valued patients!
