June—a month filled with summer sunshine, ocean views, and a pearl to gift!
Each month is represented by a beautiful gemstone. June is lucky to have two, but the one it’s best known for is the beautiful and elegant pearl.
Pearls come in a wide range of natural colors, including white, black, pink, and gold, depending on the oyster type and the environment in which they form. The most commonly known is the white pearl. White pearls are produced by Akoya, South Sea, and Freshwater oysters. In our store, we carry mainly Akoya Pearls for our Add-a-Pearl styles and Freshwater Pearls for most of our stud earrings and more dressy pieces.
OUR POPULAR “ADD-A-PEARL” OFFERING
Our Add-a-Pearl is one of our top-selling and most popular gifts. It’s simply that: add a pearl for every occasion. It’s the gift that keeps on giving—perfect for birthdays, christenings, communions, and confirmations. It allows you to build a full pearl necklace over time instead of all at once when she’s little, and it grows with her through every milestone. So when the young woman reaches her wedding, she will have a full pearl necklace that all little girls dream of.
We usually start our clients with a silver or gold chain and a single pearl in the size of your choice. Over time, they come back to purchase either a single pearl or an inch of pearls. This is a cost-effective way to build the necklace’s value over time as she gets older. As we add new pearls, we remove part of the chain, string them on silk, and knot them to ensure they will last a lifetime. This is why our starter kit is often made on a sterling silver chain. It’s inexpensive, so you will not lose value like you would with the gold option. But at Hannoush Jewelers, the choice is always yours!
BLACK, OR TAHITIAN, PEARLS
Another crowd favorite is the black pearl, also known as the Tahitian pearl. This unique pearl can range in color from light gray to very dark black. Tahitian pearls, which come from Tahitian black-lipped oysters, symbolize mystery, allure, protection, and wealth. With such symbolism, they often become a striking staple in a jewelry collection, especially because black is classic, versatile, timeless, and goes with everything in your closet! These pearls are only found in 7 millimeters or larger, so they make a bold statement on the woman wearing them.
Fun Fact: The pearl isn’t just the birthstone for the month or anniversary for June. It is also the universal gift for the 30th wedding anniversary! So if you are celebrating a big milestone in the 30th year, remember pearls from Hannoush Jewelers.
MODERN TAKES ON THE CLASSIC PEARL
While classic styles have been making a comeback in the last few years, we know wearing pearls every day isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. That’s why we offer more modern, luxury styles but at an affordable price, like our “pearl by the yard,” which means there’s an inch between each pearl. Available in necklaces and matching bracelets and worn on a diamond-cut, delicate gold cable or box chain, this style offers the allure and elegance of pearls but as a much more wearable piece that can be stacked or worn alone, dressed up, or dressed down. This is another Hannoush crowd favorite!
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR PEARLS
Lastly, we wouldn’t be your experts if we didn’t provide a little education on how to care for your pearls. While pearls are beautiful, they are one of the most delicate pieces of jewelry one can own. Pearls should be the absolute last thing you put on in the morning or when getting ready for an event. Because they are organic gems from the sea, they are prone to damage from everyday products such as perfumes, cosmetics, and haircare.
We suggest using only a soft cloth to wipe them off. Under no circumstances should you use any cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, or tarnish removers. These can be very harmful to your pearls, causing them to lose their luster or completely damage the pearls. We suggest storing them in a soft pouch or pearl folder with anti-tarnish padding for safekeeping. Other objects can rub up against them if thrown in a jewelry box and be abrasive to the pearls.
Whether it is a gift for a little girl, a gift for a woman to grow with, a birthday or anniversary gift, or just a treat for yourself, a piece of pearl jewelry will always be the answer for something classic and timeless. All of our pearls are carefully sourced in both natural Akoya and Freshwater Pearls, hand-selected, and made with sterling silver and gold chains to ensure longevity as you wear them.
