What is Fluoride?

What is Hydroxyapatite?
Hydroxyapatite is a naturally occurring mineral that makes up most of the structure of our teeth and bones. Nano-hydroxyapatite and micro-hydroxyapatite are increasingly being used in toothpaste and oral care products.
Benefits of Hydroxyapatite
- Helps re-mineralize and repair enamel
- Can reduce tooth sensitivity by filling microscopic defects in enamel
- Biocompatible and naturally found in the body
- Provides a fluoride-free alternative for patients
- May help create a smooth tooth surface that resists plaque accumulation
Considerations
- Research is promising, but hydroxyapatite has not been studied as extensively or for as long as fluoride
- Professional organizations continue to consider fluoride the gold standard in cavity prevention in high-risk patients
- Product quality and concentration can vary between brands
