Money Without the Mansplaining: Why Women Deserve a Better Financial Conversation

For a lot of women, financial planning feels like walking into a room where you were never really invited. The industry has historically been male-dominated, and too many women have had the same experience: you ask a question, and someone talks at you instead of with you. Or worse, you show up as part of a couple and the advisor directs most of the conversation to your husband.

If any of that sounds familiar, you are not alone.

Here is one statistic that says it clearly: 62% of women do not have a financial advisor. That does not mean women do not care about their future. It often means they have not found an environment that feels safe, respectful, and judgment-free.

One of the most common reasons women do not seek guidance is surprisingly simple: embarrassment. Many feel like they should already understand investing, retirement accounts, and market jargon before they sit down with a professional. But financial planning is not a test you have to pass. It is a skill you build. A good advisor should help you learn the basics, understand your options, and make confident decisions without making you feel small.

This matters even more when you consider that women live an average of six years longer than men. That extra time can mean higher healthcare costs, a longer retirement, and more years where your money needs to work for you. It also means that many women will eventually manage finances on their own, whether due to divorce, illness, or the loss of a spouse. Having clarity and confidence before that day comes can change everything.

The stakes are real. Women who do not take an active part in their financial future are three times more likely to struggle financially later in life. The good news is that the solution is not complicated. It starts with getting involved.

Start by asking a few foundational questions:

What do I have? What do I owe? What am I trying to accomplish in the next one, five, and twenty years? From there, we can build a plan that matches your life, your values, and your priorities.

You deserve to be included in every financial conversation that affects your future. You deserve explanations that make sense. You deserve a plan you understand, not one you simply nod along to.
