Framing Life’s Treasures, Life’s Memories

Every project that comes through the doors of a custom frame shop has a story. One of the biggest joys for the owner and the staff is knowing they are helping to preserve and show off that treasure, that memory, that story. Never ever hesitate to share your story.

One morning, a customer carried in a faded recipe card stained with flour and vanilla. Alongside it were old photographs of her grandmother and some of her accoutrements. The customer wanted a display called “Grandma’s Kitchen Memories.” As the frame came together with the recipe, a vintage apron, and a photo, it became more than décor — it became a tribute to Sunday dinners, holiday pies, and Grandma.

Last basketball season, a devoted Chicago Bulls fan arrived with an unusual treasure: a small authenticated piece of the floor from the United Center. He had attended games there for years and wanted to preserve a piece of the arena that held countless memories. The finished shadowbox featured photographs, tickets, and the piece of hardwood.

A music teacher brought in a shoebox full of tickets from concerts she and her late husband attended together. She wanted a way to preserve and protect those special memories.

One of the most exciting projects arrived in the hands of an avid golfer’s wife. Her husband’s birthday was coming up and she wanted that one-of-a-kind gift featuring mementos from his first hole-in-one. Nestled in a protective case was the golf ball along with photographs from the day and the signed scorecard that verified the unforgettable achievement.

The final project of the season came from a family clearing out an old cedar chest. Inside was a collection of delicate handmade doilies carefully crocheted by generations of women. Rather than storing them away, they chose to preserve them in a custom frame where their intricate patterns could be admired. Once displayed, the doilies became works of art showcasing countless hours of patience, skill, and family tradition.

Though the objects were different — a recipe card, a piece of hardwood, concert tickets, a golf ball, and handcrafted lace — they each shared something important and represented a memory that mattered. Through custom framing, these everyday treasures were transformed into lasting stories — preserved not just for today but for generations to come. As one customer attested, “You made a family heirloom!”
