3 Ways to Set a Fall Routine

The flexibility in your schedule during the summer months works well and allows for maximum enjoyment, but by the time Autumn rolls around, most of us are in need of a “routine”. Changing back into structured activities helps you stay productive and make the most of the cooler months ahead. Need some inspiration to make this year different and maximize your time and energy?

Set alarms to schedule your day. A solid routine relies on consistency. Start by setting up wake-up and sleep times every single day. Beyond sleep, pick three other fixed anchors in your day, like a set time for exercise, lunch, and a firm cutoff time for ending your work. These boundaries create a predictable schedule, which makes it easier to fit your tasks into defined windows of time.

Prepare your day the evening before. When you wake up without a plan, you waste time and energy figuring out what to do first. Spending a few minutes every night deciding your top priorities for the next day can help you start the day with more ease. Maybe this looks like making a physical to-do-list, setting out your clothes, or meal prepping. Getting rid of early morning choices allow you to start your day with immediate focus and momentum.

Cut out unnecessary tasks to avoid overload. People sometimes quit new routines because they try to change too many things at once. Instead of trying to change every hour of your day, keep a simple list of goals. Identify the habits that yield the highest return on your time and focus on those. A realistic schedule is much easier to stay with for the long term rather than a super aggressive plan that leaves no room for error.

Establishing a routine that works for you means making choices about where you spend your (limited) time and energy. For over 40 years the professionals at Merry Maids have been putting back more free time on people’s busy schedules and giving them “One Less Thing to Worry About”. With a plan in place, and removing house cleaning from your routine, you can take control of your time and set yourself up for an even more successful fall season. Here’s to the rest of 2026!
