If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me, “Jody, what’s the best beige paint color?” I’d probably have enough to repaint half of Friendswood.
Whether I’m walking a new construction, consulting on a remodel, or helping a family update a home they’ve loved for twenty years, the conversation almost always ends up in the same place… “What’s your favorite neutral?” Here’s the funny part. There isn’t one.

I know that’s probably not the answer you were hoping for. The truth is, choosing a neutral isn’t about finding the best color. It’s about finding the right color for your home.
Every house in Friendswood has different lighting, different trees outside the windows, different brick, flooring, countertops, and furniture. A paint color that looks incredible in West Ranch may feel completely different in The Forest or on a wooded lot where natural light is filtered through beautiful oak trees. That’s why paint selection is one of the most customized decisions I make during every project.

First things first, Beige vs. Taupe people often use these two words interchangeably, but they’re actually quite different. Beige has a warm undertone. So, think sand, linen, oatmeal or soft cream. I use it for creating inviting feels. Taupe, on the other hand, is a blend of beige and gray. It has more depth and sophistication. Its warmer, rosy undertones, richer and gives more layers to work with. To me beige is a light feel, and taupe is a cashmere feel. Both are beautiful, they are just used to create different moods.
So, what is my favorite “beige”? I want to say what my favorite neutrals are:
- Accessible Beige SW 7036 – Beautiful with white oak, warm metals and black
- Natural Tan SW7567 – Soft and incredibly versatile
- Shoji White SW7042 – Best “off” white ever
- Taupe of the Morning SW9590 – Absolute favorite to bring in richness
