There is a moment every holiday season when things slow down just enough for me to look back. And this year, that moment hit a little harder than usual. Because this year marks eleven years since Right at Home Rhome opened its doors.
Eleven years. I still remember the early days. A small office, a handful of caregivers, and a whole lot of faith that the families in this part of North Texas would give us a chance. And you did.
It Started With Trust
When we first began serving families in Decatur and the surrounding towns, we were not a known name. We were new. We were learning the roads between Bridgeport and Bowie, figuring out which back highways saved twenty minutes, and getting to know the nurses and social workers at every hospital and clinic in the county.
What got us through those early years was not a marketing plan. It was Mrs. Gutierrez telling her neighbor about us. It was a pastor in Boyd mentioning our name to a family he knew was struggling. It was the VA office in Decatur connecting us with a veteran who had no idea he qualified for in-home support.
That kind of trust is not something you can buy. It is something you earn, one visit, one phone call, one kept promise at a time.
The Families Who Changed Us
I could tell you about the numbers. How many counties we serve, how many caregivers work with us, how many homes we have been welcomed into from Weatherford to Wichita Falls, Aledo to Mineral Wells. But honestly, the numbers are not what keep me up at night or get me out of bed in the morning.
It is the daughter in Justin who called us in tears because she had not had a full night of sleep in two years, and within a week we had someone there so she could rest. It is the couple in Springtown who thought they were out of options until we walked them through their long-term care insurance and showed them they had coverage they did not even know about. It is the veteran in Graham who sat in our office and said, “I did not think anybody was going to help me.”
Those are the moments that made this company what it is.
What Eleven Years Has Taught Me
I have learned that people in small towns do not want a big corporate pitch. They want someone who answers the phone, shows up when they say they will, and treats their family member the way they would treat their own. That is it. That is the whole formula.
I have also learned that this work is not something you do alone. Our caregivers are the backbone of everything. The nurses and discharge planners who trust us with their patients. The hospice teams who partner with us to make sure someone is never without support. The community organizations, the senior centers, the churches. We are one piece of a much bigger picture, and we never forget that.
From Our Family to Yours
This holiday season, whether you are sitting across the table from someone you love or calling them from a few hundred miles away, I want you to know something. If you ever need help taking care of them, we are here. We have been here for eleven years. And we are not going anywhere.
From all of us at Right at Home Rhome, thank you. Thank you for trusting us with your parents, your grandparents, your spouses, your neighbors. Thank you for telling others about us. Thank you for letting us be part of your family’s story.
