Know Your Numbers — Make Money on Purpose

As we head into the fourth quarter and begin wrapping up another year, now is the time to ask yourself a question: Do I know my numbers?

Many business owners are hesitant to outsource their bookkeeping. But outsourcing isn’t what you should be afraid of. What you should be afraid of is not knowing your numbers or knowing how your business will end this year. Your bookkeeping is not just for taxes, it’s powerful information to make intentional business decisions.

Your bookkeeper shouldn’t simply categorize transactions, reconcile accounts, and send you reports once a month. They should communicate with you. They should ask questions and answer yours. They should help you understand your Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet. If you don’t see these reports monthly, you need to!

At The Cash Flow Boss™, we believe money is a tool, and your financials are the manual. Accurate, up-to-date bookkeeping gives you the information you need to actually use that manual. You are back in the driver’s seat with real-time financials.

And with year-end approaching, don’t wait until December, or worse, tax time to discover that your books aren’t in order. Quarter four is the perfect time to clean up outstanding issues, review your financials, make sure vendor information is ready for 1099s, and understand where your business truly stands before the year closes.

But knowing where you’ve been is only half the equation. Where are you going in 2027?

This is where forecasting comes in. Instead of setting goals based on hope, build them into the numbers. Want to hire someone? Buy equipment? Increase your own pay? Open another location? Invest more in marketing?

Put it in the forecast. Then determine what revenue, gross profit, and margins your business needs to support those decisions.

A budget shouldn’t feel restrictive. A budget is freedom. A forecast/budget allows you to look ahead, anticipate cash needs, prepare for opportunities, and make decisions before the money is already spent.

You don’t have to run your business looking in the rearview mirror.

Get your books in order. Understand what your numbers are telling you. Build a plan for where you want to go next.

Know your numbers. Be intentional with your money. And in 2027, make money on purpose.
