May arrives in Auburn with warm days, fresh energy and a full lineup of ways for families, athletes and neighbors to enjoy the season across our parks, trails and community spaces.
The month begins with a marquee athletic weekend as the City of Auburn Pickleball Open returns to the Lake Wilmore Pickleball Center, May 8th–10th. This three‑day tournament features round‑robin play, medal rounds and capped divisions, drawing competitors from across the region.
The following morning brings a beloved family tradition as the 32nd Annual Fishing Rodeo returns on Saturday, May 9th, from 7:00 a.m.–11:00 a.m. at Auburn Technology Park South. Children ages one through fourteen can compete for prizes, and the first 175 registrants will receive a free rod and reel courtesy of Evans Realty. Pre‑registration is required.
Music fills Thursday evenings throughout the month with the Live & Local Music Series at Kiesel Park on May 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th from 6:00–7:30 p.m. Guests can bring blankets, lawn chairs and leashed pets to enjoy free concerts and on‑site food vendors.
Beginning May 11th, art lovers can explore The May Show: Watercolors, an open exhibition showcasing a range of watercolor techniques and styles at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center.
As the month continues, summer officially begins with the opening of Samford Pool on Saturday, May 23rd.
That same morning marks the return of City Market, opening Saturday, May 23rd, and continuing weekly through August 29th at Town Creek Park. From 8:00–11:00 a.m., visitors can shop fresh produce, handmade goods and local treats while enjoying live music and children’s activities.
