June in Auburn brings long summer days, lively community traditions and a full lineup of ways to celebrate the season.
The month begins with exciting news from the SummerNight committee as preparations continue for the 20th annual SummerNight Downtown Art Walk. Applications are now open for artists, culinary participants, volunteers and sponsors. This year’s art walk will take place on Friday, June 5, from 6 to 10 p.m., transforming downtown Auburn into a vibrant arts district filled with local and regional artwork, live music, delicious food and hands‑on activities for kids.
Summer weekends stay busy with City Market, a beloved Auburn tradition held every Saturday at Town Creek Park. Visitors can browse fresh produce, baked goods, handmade items and flowers while enjoying the relaxed, open‑air atmosphere that makes City Market a staple of the season.
Families can dive into summer on Saturday, June 6, with Family Splash Day, a free day at the pool offered at both Samford Pool and Lake Wilmore Pool. This year’s event features Water Safety Stations designed to help families learn essential skills for a safe and confident summer in the water.
Evenings in June bring back one of Auburn’s favorite traditions with Float‑in Movies. Guests are invited to bring their favorite float and enjoy a movie under the stars. Doors open at 7:45 p.m., and movies begin at 8 p.m. Admission is free with an All‑Inclusive Parks and Recreation Membership or five dollars per person. This month’s screenings include Alvin & the Chipmunks on June 13 and The Greatest Showman on June 27.
June also marks an exciting milestone for some of Auburn’s athletes as a couple of our Special Olympics competitors travel to the National Special Olympics Games in Minnesota from June 20 through June 26. Their dedication and hard work continue to inspire the entire community.
Art lovers can explore new creative perspectives at the Summer Invitational Exhibition: From A to Z, on display at the Jan Dempsey Community Arts Center from June 22 through July 31. This special exhibition features two‑ and three‑dimensional works created around an assigned theme, showcasing the imagination and talent of artists from across the region.
From bustling markets and poolside celebrations to open‑air movies, national athletic achievements and inspiring art exhibitions, June offers countless ways to enjoy the best of summer with Auburn Parks and Recreation!
